About the show

‘Hold the Line’ is a new comedy-drama inspired by the true stories of writer and actor Sam Macgregor, who has been working in a NHS 111 call centre for the last 5 years. The play centres on Gary, a health adviser who faces the shift from hell when a patient unexpectedly dies during a routine assessment over the phone. Who's to blame, what consequences will there be?

The show runs daily between July 30th and August 25th at 4:25pm (excl. August 18th).

Running time: 60 minutes
Content warning: the play discusses mental health and includes references to death and suicide.

About the writer, actor and co-producer

Sam Harry Macgregor

Sam Harry Macgregor is a writer and performer whose debut play 'Truly, Madly, Baldy' premiered at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the Pleasance Theatre. His new play 'Hold the Line' was shortlisted for the 2025 Charlie Harthill award and will premiere this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Gabriela Chanova

Gabriela Chanova is a Bulgarian actor and theatre producer. Her acting credits include Gecko and Good Chance, performing at venues such as Seven Dials Playhouse and the Union Theatre and appearing in short films by BFS. Co-Artistic Director of StageBase, NYT Youth Trustee and Almeida Young Producer.

Laura Killeen is a director and theatre maker. Directing credits include JEEZUS! (Edinburgh Untapped Award 2025 Winner), Godot Is A Woman, Distant Memories of the Near Future and Chopped Liver & Unions. An accomplished dramaturg, published writer and performer on both sides of the pond.

Johnny Phethean is a sound designer, music producer, DJ, and label manager, working in film, theatre, radio, animation, podcasting, and technology. Johnny previously worked with Sam Macgregor on his debut play Truly Madly Baldy.
